KEEP THE FIRE BURNING & FUNKY SENSATION On CD Disco Inferno - (Wea 1993)

Born 1943 in Pensacola Florida, Gwen's early upbringing was spent in church. By her late teens, she met a sailor that completely changed her life. The sailor in question was one George McCrae and, within a week, they were married. As George & Gwen, the duo sang all around Miami when they were discovered by HENRY STONE, the man behind the legendary Miami Soul Sounds label TK Productions.

Regional hits were soon followed by the national success of "Lead Me On" and "Ain't Nothing You Can Do". In 1975, Gwen went on to international superstardom with the multi-million selling, and Grammy nominated, "Rockin' Chair". The hits continued with "Cradle Of Love" and "Damn Right It's Good".

Moving over to Atlantic Records in the early 80's, the classics kept coming; "Funky Sensation", "Poyson" and "Keep The Fire Burning" were only three of them...

By the mid 80's, Gwen quit the record business and became a born-again Christian. However, she suddenly found herself re-discovered by London's growing rare groove scene and was quickly signed to Rhythm King with whom she released two singles before leaving the record business once again.

Early last year, back after five years absence, Gwen scored her first UK Top 40 hit for nearly twenty years with All This Love", through WEA, followed by a Top 75 hit with "Anything U Want".

"Gwen McCrae, another of clubland's venerable vocalists, has resurfaced, serving loyalists with house-hooked rerecording of her early 80's cutie "Keep The Fire Burning". The song still conveys a warm and uplifting energy, but it now has a more worldwise bend, due mostly to the gravelly edge that time has given McCrae's voice... Punters can have fun with a doublepack of "Burning" mixes from StoneBridge, Rob Below (we simply love his Grand House excursion), JJ and Roger S". (BILLBOARD)
