Highly regarded funky R&B style band formed in 1970 by Maurice White.
Late 70's recordings were disco themed and dancefloor classics. By the time they
were on Columbia/CBS in 1976, they were recording R&B/disco songs like
"Saturday night" and "Fantasy" (much covered in the 80's).
Highly successful in 78/79 with "September", "Boogie
Wonderland" and "Star" - all disco classics. Last disco-like
recording was in 1981 with "Let's groove".
